Mini Cake Challenge – October

by Crystalyn

It has been a LONG week. Shaun is training for his new job, so he has been gone pretty much all day every day this week, and there are still two more days of fun. Today was an especially hard day for some reason. So I thought, you know what? I need to bake a cake. So I did. And I felt a little better.

I went with a super simple, quick pumpkin patch cake. I think it turned out cute! (Especially since it took maybe ten minutes to decorate.) I didn’t bother busting out the nice camera for this one since it’s not like the most amazing cake ever, so enjoy some cheesy camera phone shots. (Juniper for one LOVED the pumpkins!)

And I found an amazing pair of Halloween socks at the thrift store today. I guess if you were to go trick or treating as Santa these would work great :)

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to get back to Dancing with the Stars. I’m pretty hopelessly hooked at this point… Go Ricki!

Past Months: January, February, April, May, June, July

{restyle} Dress Pants for my Lil’ Mister

by Crystalyn

I’ve been meaning to share this project for a few weeks now, and I finally got around to getting these pictures together. We went to a family wedding at the beginning of the month and I wanted to sew something cute for the kids to wear, but that was back when all of our stuff was in boxes in my mother-in-law’s garage, so I didn’t get as much sewing done as I wanted. But I DID make these cute slacks for my little man!

Perfect for playing with cousins at birthday parties or crawling around after a relaxing morning at church. Is that sweater vest not the cutest thing ever?? I got it for a dollar. I need to make him some more pants. They’re so easy to sew, and with the cooler weather coming he could definitely use some. I was putting away some laundry and I realized that my kids’ shorts to pants ratio is extremely tailored to living in Florida. We all need a Missouri wardrobe makeover!

Seven Months

by Crystalyn

This little seven month old stud is such a ladies man. Everywhere we go, every woman within 20 feet has to stop and come get some Flynn lovin. Just look at those big handsome eyes! And that fuzzy blonde hair, I could die he’s so cute. Cuteness overload. And he knows it too. He’s all, whatever come kiss me. He’s been sleeping really well through the night lately, just waking up once for a quick feed. (Which is great compared to his typical 3 or 4 times!) He sure does love to eat. It’s fun feeding him solids because he just sits in his chair and eats. When Juniper was his age, feeding her was an EVENT. (A very messy one.) He’s a pretty serious guy, he saves his giggles for when he really means it! Juniper is the best at getting him to laugh, he thinks she’s the funniest person ever.

Speaking of Juniper. She is WONDERFUL. Man I love that girl so much. I love having conversations with her. Real conversations, that don’t involve animal noises. (Well, most of the time they do.) It’s so crazy to think she’s almost 3 already. I’m starting to plan a little birthday celebration, and she’s been giving me her input which is so fun. She wants a “sparkly rainbow princess” birthday party. It’s going to be awesome. (Shaun says “I’m so glad we have a boy now too…”)

Etsy Love

1. True Love Ring by Amy Cornwell
I will own this ring someday. I even got a ring sizer (from some random diamond resale website) so I could order the right size. Now I just need to save up my allowance!

2. “le honey badger” Notebook by le animale
“Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.” Now THERE is a saying to live by!

3. Rap Shark Brooch by Nicola Clare
This rapping shark just makes me smile. Word.

4. Bunny, Bear and Fox Brooch PDF Pattern by Gingermelon
I want to buy this pattern and make a million of them! Seriously adorable.

5. Boho Leather Belt Pouch by Dear Bones
I really want a belt pouch. Don’t ask me why. And this one is dreamy.

6. Wee Thee Gnomes by The Tiny House
I would cover a whole Christmas tree in these cute little guys!

Locket Redo

by Crystalyn

I got this locket as a gift from my sister, and I absolutely loved it. Seriously, how cute is it?? So imagine how sad I was when Juniper peeled off the clear protective layer and it got wet.. Things weren’t looking very good for my poor locket.

I didn’t want to throw it away. I figure nothing a little creativity and some nail polish couldn’t fix! Now I can still wear my favorite necklace. And if I get bored with the design, I can always change it up! Have I mentioned that I love nail polish?

A shirt for Ada

by Crystalyn

I finally got to spend some time in my (extremely unorganized) new craft room this weekend. It felt good to get the sewing machine out! I made this cute shirt for a cousin’s 1st birthday gift. I love how it turned out! Hopefully it fits her. Happy birthday Ada Grace!

{Recipe} Homemade Salsa

by Crystalyn

My mother-in-law, Jane, came over earlier this week to help with some things around the house. (We were going to paint the kitchen but I still haven’t bought the paint…) She brought me over some vegetables from their garden, and when I say “some vegetables” I mean, LOTS OF VEGETABLES! Oh man, I am going to be so spoiled.

So I made what any reasonable person would make. Salsa! Here is the recipe that Jane gave me. I had fun chopping everything up.

Chunky Salsa
6 cups chopped tomatoes
1 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped peppers
3T white distilled vinegar
2T lemon juice
1tsp onion powder
1tsp garlic powder
1tsp salt

I put all of the ingredients into a crock pot and cooked it for a couple of hours. I also added chopped mushrooms and corn, just because I had them.

It turned out pretty yummy! Salsa is always welcome in my house. (Although it doesn’t stay around for long!) Mmmmmm…

Rocks

by Crystalyn

The kids and I spent some time outside today digging through rocks and exploring our new yard. (Juniper especially loved the digging through rocks part! And Flynn ate a leaf or two…) I have been doing a lot of creative brainstorming lately. Unfortunately with all the unpacking there isn’t a ton of time to actually BE creative! But this rock digging adventure was the start of some fun projects. Some I will share, some I will keep secret. At least until after Christmas! (I’m trying to start my gift making early this year!)

Tomorrow my mother-in-law is coming over to help paint some things, and she is bringing me lots of yummy vegetables from their garden! {Mmmmmmm} I also have some scheduled ‘craft therapy’ with a good friend so it should be a fantastic day.

Also… I may have a slight obsession with anything heart shaped. ♥

{What I Wore} just to feel cute

by Crystalyn

Sometimes a girl just wants to feel cute. I didn’t go anywhere interesting today, in fact I didn’t even DO anything interesting. So just to make myself feel pretty I got all dressed up and took silly pictures of myself on the deck. When I walked out of the room, Juniper said “Mommy, you a princess?” Made my day. And yup, this princess wears dirty old sneakers. I’m just cool that way.

A Drawing & Some Cuteness

by Crystalyn

I finished up a new drawing commission last week right before we moved and I finally got around to taking a good photo of it! I hope they love it! I’ve got a couple more drawings in queue, and soon I’ll be hosting a GIVEAWAY! So if you want a chance to win a custom drawing, check back for details.

It turns out the deck on our new house is the perfect place to take photos. Gotta love natural light! While I was playing with my camera, Juniper was off in the yard picking flowers. And of course she wanted to put them in water. I love that girl.
