Small Changes

by Crystalyn

Remember this couple? I did my best to make the groom look a tiny bit less like his dad. I shortened his jacket some and trimmed/lightened his beard. I think it makes him look a little younger, but I don’t know. What do you think?

I bought some new paper today and I’m really excited about a couple of drawings I’ve got planned. I also found my favorite pencil! So that’s exciting too. It was in the laundry room of all places…

Date Night ♥

by Crystalyn

Thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law, Loverboy and I were able to enjoy a nice date tonight! Date nights are pretty rare because Shaun works nights and rarely gets one off. (Plus we always feel bad leaving the kids with anyone else, because they can be quite a handful.) But a random weeknight off + awesome mother-in-law (Have I mentioned we love her?) = much needed date night. It was so nice to be able to just spend a little time together without our crazy adorable kids.

We went for a hike at a local state park, ate heart shaped jelly beans, did a little thrifting, and had dinner at Steak and Shake. (Chocolate banana milkshake? Yes please!) I also tried cottage cheese for the first time, which is kind of a big deal! (I was right by the way, that texture is just too weird!! Don’t think I’ll be eating more any time soon.) I brought my nice camera to the park so I could take some pictures, but I forgot my memory card in the computer… so I had to settle with cruddy cell phone pictures. Oh well, that just means we’ll have to go back! Next time we’ll bring the kids :)

Just a little peak into my notebook. I hope your weekend was lovely.

365 Days Outside > 42-49

by Crystalyn

Day 42
Juniper helped me with a quick spray paint job today! It was so cold we kept running back into the house to warm up our fingers in between sprays.

Day 43
Today was a lovely day. We spent our time outside exploring the back yard and rolling down the hill. (I had so much fun teaching that little game to Juniper!)

Day 44
Today we went for a walk. It ended up being a lot chillier than we were expecting, so it was a short walk. Juniper didn’t want to come back in the house so I let her stay on the deck and blow bubbles.

Day 45
Juniper and Dad worked a little more on clearing up the back yard while I took pictures of my handsome little Flynn since he is 11 months old now! After Dad went to work, the kids and I took a really nice long walk around the block to make up for yesterday’s sad attempt at taking a walk. (That picture of Juniper putting her coat on cracks me up!)

Day 46
Another chilly day, but just right for spending a little time playing on the deck. I thought the sky was so pretty. Of course my neighbors probably thing I’m some kind of creeper.

Day 47
This evening was super annoying, because it was BEAUTIFUL outside while I was at work, but when we went to go for a walk it had gotten super windy and cold. So instead we sat in front of the window, watched the trees blow in the wind and ate burritos. (Yummy!)

Day 48
So cold and so windy! Which of course means we had to make sure the birdies had enough food. Feeding the birds has become one of our favorite things. And that enormous bag of bird seed for less than $5 has made for months of entertainment. It was definitely worth it!

Day 49
It started out pretty chilly today but ended up being quite nice outside. We just romped around in the yard kicking leaves and looking at rocks. And look what we found growing in our front yard! Spring is coming and we are so excited! It will be fun seeing what plants grow in our new yard!

Eleven Months

by Crystalyn

It seems like I was just writing a ten month old post, can my baby really already be eleven months old? He is growing up so fast, but I love that he still cuddles in my arms like a little baby. As much as I wish he would start sleeping through the night, I secretly love his sleepy baby cuddles once I get him to fall back to sleep. Lately he has only been waking up three times, occasionally though he’ll have a bad night and wake up six or seven times… And then I am a zombie the whole next day!

Flynn is starting to play games, which is of course adorable. He likes to play hide and seek, look through books, and climb. And he LOVES when you crawl with him around the house. He’s fast! Tonight he took a few steps. I don’t think he’ll be fully walking any time soon though, he is perfectly content with crawling everywhere and that is fine with me.

His little smile melts my heart. I love this little boy so much. One more month until his birthday. ♥

Drawing ~ A House for Alison

by Crystalyn

I’ve been working on a drawing these past couple of weeks. It’s taken me a little longer than I expected. I really should have known that it would, you’d think after 11 months I’d be used to this whole ‘two kids’ thing. (Speaking of 11 months, I’ll be back later today with some cute pictures!)

This is the second time I’ve drawn this house. I originally drew it for one of my regular clients who gave it to a friend as a moving gift, but then it was lost in the move! So I was contacted to have it re-drawn. I hope she likes it just as much the second time around. I need to take a better photo before I mail it. I took this one as I was running out my door for work this morning.

What I’ve been up to.

by Crystalyn

As promised, here is a quick look at some of the creative projects that have been keeping me busy. I am terrible at starting a new project before I finish the first… In fact, I never finished painting my craft room shelves. They are about 70% done. Shaun says I should leave them that way because they are very appropriate for the room! (I WILL finish them eventually!)

1. A little something for a cute little man. 2. A drawing of a house. 3. I finally thought of the perfect use for that adorable embroidery hoop. (I want more of them!) 4. A little spray paint fun. 5. More bucket hats for Laura. (She gave me enough fabric for 20 hats, I’ve sewn 3.) I’ve also got a couple more projects in the works that I haven’t started yet. I’ll share more on each one as I finish them up.

Just a little update.

by Crystalyn

Things have been a little quiet around here. I can’t seem to put into words how I have been feeling lately. Well, without sounding like a crazy person anyway, so I won’t even try. So instead I’ve just been taking it easy and telling myself “tomorrow will be great”. (Not that every day isn’t great. Which I guess is the point. Do you ever feel sad for no reason?) Anyway, the weather has been really nice this week so we have been enjoying a lot of afternoons in the yard. Today we went for a long walk. That was nice.

I’ve been working on quite a few projects lately. Maybe tomorrow I’ll share a sneak peak of them all. I also somehow managed to get the house clean and keep it clean for more than 5 minutes. If that isn’t a miracle I don’t know what is.

Escape Proof Pajamas

by Crystalyn

A couple weeks ago I got a pretty funny request for some escape proof pajamas. My sweet little niece likes to takes her clothes off and play with her diaper, and it’s smelly contents! We like to encourage artistic expression, but needless to say, my sister was getting tired of cleaning up THAT mess. (Juniper pulled that stunt once and it was epic indeed! I should have taken a picture…) Miss Juniper was kind enough to model the pajamas for me. She had just woken up, hence the lovely hairdo. But it works.

I sort of made these up as I went along, using some of Juniper’s pajamas as a template. They zip up the back, and have a button closure at the top. I had some leftover fabric so I decided to sew a little bear to match. Well, it was supposed to be a bear, but it looks more like a hamster/bear/rabbit/pig/man thing. Whatever it is, Juniper was pretty sad that she didn’t get to keep it! So I’ll probably be making another.

My sister posted a cute video of Miss Piper dancing around in her new pajamas. She apparently has names the doll “Mermaid”, which I think is hilarious! Which reminds me, remember those frog dolls I made for Shaun’s cousins? Well, Jacob named his Dracula! Kids are so funny.

I’m sharing this post over on iheartnaptime. Now I’m off to check out all the other fun projects!

365 Days Outside > 37-41

by Crystalyn

Day 37
Snow day! It’s always exciting to wake up to a snowy yard.

Day 38
The snow looked like it was going to melt by the end of the day, so before I left for work Juniper and I went outside and built a snowman. I’m glad we did because the snow was ALL gone when I got home!

Day 39
I bought a package of tiny plastic dinosaurs at Target for a dollar. They were a huge hit. Of course they were, they’re dinosaurs!

Day 40
Dad took the kids outside today for a little bit while I was at work. They played with what was left of the snowman and Flynn most likely ate a bunch of leaves.

Day 41
What a pretty day today was! We went exploring in the wooded area behind our house. Juniper and I sat on a log and listened for animals, (We apparently saw an elephant and some tigers!) and then we played in the tiny river running through our yard.
