365 Days Outside > 37-41

Day 37
Snow day! It’s always exciting to wake up to a snowy yard.

Day 38
The snow looked like it was going to melt by the end of the day, so before I left for work Juniper and I went outside and built a snowman. I’m glad we did because the snow was ALL gone when I got home!

Day 39
I bought a package of tiny plastic dinosaurs at Target for a dollar. They were a huge hit. Of course they were, they’re dinosaurs!

Day 40
Dad took the kids outside today for a little bit while I was at work. They played with what was left of the snowman and Flynn most likely ate a bunch of leaves.

Day 41
What a pretty day today was! We went exploring in the wooded area behind our house. Juniper and I sat on a log and listened for animals, (We apparently saw an elephant and some tigers!) and then we played in the tiny river running through our yard.

This week wasn’t such a great week, but we still managed to only miss one day of going outside. (Sticking Juniper on the deck with some bubble soap totally counts.) But missing one day has been the norm around here. Sometimes on really bad weeks we miss two days. It’s not really about going outside every. single. day. It’s more about having fun and being more active. I am SO EXCITED for spring to come though!!!! We are going to have some fun when it warms up!

Day 31
Feeding the birds has become one of our favorite outside activities. I typically give Juniper a bowl of bird seed, which she sprinkles all over the backyard. (She is wearing a dress that I am in the process of making her. I’ll take legit photos soon!)

Day 32
Oh how we love bubbles. Flynn even got to come hang out with us since it wasn’t too cold.

Day 33
Juniper got to hang out with Daddy today. They played frisbee and started cleaning up the yard.

Day 34
I had absolutely no motivation to go outside today, because I had been feeling sick and tired all day. But we made a new bird feeder out of some sticks and a grapefruit. (I got the idea on Pinterest, of course. Originally from Amber Dusick.)

Day 35
I stayed home sick from work today, so during Flynn’s nap I sent Juniper outside to help Daddy clean up the yard. We also had fun watching the birds enjoy their new feeder.

Day 36
Another cold, windy day with me being sick…. Stick a girl on the deck with some bubble soap and she’s as happy as a bird with a french fry. (Especially with her new bubble toys.)

Day 25
Juniper got to play in the snow on the deck while I sat inside with a grumpy Mr. Macaroni-n-cheese-face. We were a little disappointed that it didn’t snow more.

Day 26
After church we played frisbee outside with Dad. We were surprised how nice it was outside, there was only a tiny bit of snow left.

Day 27
We got a little crafty outside today and made a fairy garden, complete with tiny house, pebble walkway and lots of random plants.

Day 28
Today was perfect weather to hang out on the deck and look at the clouds. We also played quite a bit in the yard.

Day 29
Another perfect day to be outside. We did a lot of exploring in the back yard today while Flynn took his afternoon nap.

Day 30
It was rainy today (very, very rainy) but we didn’t let that stop us from having a few minutes of outside fun. Puddles are for jumping in! Poor Flynn wanted so much to come out too.

Day 20
Today we drew on our driveway wall with sidewalk chalk and ate a yummy orange. (Juniper insisted we bring the orange with us.)

Day 21
Bubbles! The perfect way to spend a little time outside on a chilly day.

Day 22
It was a beautiful day today. We played in the front yard for a while and I climbed a tree. (Juniper took that photo!) Then we checked the mail and there were stickers!

Day 23
Bubbles are the big hit this week. Especially since Juniper is only allowed to play with them outside. Flynn watched from inside, he really wanted to join in on the fun.

Day 24
We almost didn’t go outside today, but then at bedtime it started snowing so of course we HAD to go outside instead! (I couldn’t find any better shoes haha)

365 Days Outside > 14-19

Day 14
Today we made a surprise for Daddy in our back yard. When he looks outside in the morning he will know how much we love him.

Day 15
Our snowman is officially the only snow left in our yard. Well, accept the tiny spots of snow here and there that Juniper insisted we take pictures of.

Day 16
Oh my goodness was it beautiful outside today! It got up to 70! We took a nice long walk around the neighborhood.

Day 17
Another cold, cold day. Today we stayed inside and made a bird feeder with sticks, peanut butter, and bird seeds.

Day 18
We hung up our bird feeder today. Then we sprinkled the rest of the bird seed in the back yard and played on the porch for a while with Juniper’s beloved ponies.

Day 19
It was so so cold and windy today that instead of going outside, we sat in front of the back door and ate a snack while we counted the trees and played I Spy.

Day 7
Walks are a big hit around here. Juniper loves to push Flynn in the stroller, and he loves driving around! We went all around today and collected lots of sticks and rocks to paint.

Day 8
We were visiting Oma so we took Trevor for a walk after lunch. Juniper even got some mail!

Day 9
Today was another nice day, but it is starting to get colder again, so Juniper helped Dad collect fire wood.

Day 10
While I was at work Dad took the kids out for a walk, which turned into a “Garbage Finding Expedition”. Juniper told me ALL about it when I got home.

Day 11
It was getting dark when I got home from work, so we just sat on the deck for a quick picnic snack.

Day 12
Snow day!! We had fun as a family outside today, playing in the new snow. It was SO COLD!!! And super windy!

Day 13
Juniper and I built a “snowmoundman” on the back deck today.

365 Days Outside

I’m pretty excited about this book I got for Christmas from my sister-in-law. I really don’t think I have to explain to you all how great it is for kids (and adults!) to get outside. Even when it’s cold outside, it just makes our day so much better to get out there. This book is a nice reference, it has a section for each month, with enough season appropriate activities for every day.

So we’ve decided to try and go outside every day this year, at least for a little while. I’ll be posting a summary of our adventures here once a week. Maybe it will inspire you to get outside and enjoy the fresh air more often! I think it’s funny that it’s only the 5th and we already have 6 days. We started a little early :)

Day 1
This was a beautiful day! We ran around in the yard and enjoyed the pretty weather.

Day 2
It was dark by the time we got home (and cold!) but we bundled up, stuck both kids in the stroller, and went for a walk to look at the Christmas lights in our neighborhood. Juniper did NOT want to go home.

Day 3
COLD COLD COLD! We just went out for a quick run around on the back porch.

Day 4
It was too cold to go outside today, so instead we looked out the window with the binoculars I found in our basement.

Day 5
It was a nice day so we went for a walk. I let Juniper decide which way she wanted to go, so of course we went towards any house that still has Christmas lights up!

Day 6
Today was beautiful again. During Flynn’s nap, Juniper and I went outside and had a picnic. Then we went exploring and played in the leaves. We stayed out for more than an hour it was so pretty!
